24 Hour Care
MEVA is a 24-hour equine veterinary services clinic,
which allows for 24 hour in-hospital care for critical and intensive care
patients. Our facility can provide treatment for medical colics and
diarrheas, respiratory diseases, eye injuries/conditions, wound
management, foaling, and neonatal care.
Our staff of technicians allows us to provide continuous
monitoring and treatment of patients. Coordinating that staff is
Sarah Allgood, RVT, a veterinary technician. Sarah came to us from
the University of Georgia's Large Animal Teaching Hospital, where she was

| Direct Digital Imaging

Monocacy Equine utilizes Direct Digital System radiography
equipment enabling us to view a radiograph
within 15 seconds of taking the picture, so we can pinpoint problem
areas instantly. The quality and detail of the images are
superior to conventional films.
This service gives our veterinarians on of the best tools for diagnosing lameness
problems.

During
pre-purchase exams our doctors can image a questionable
joint immediately. If a significant lesion is apparent, we could
then terminate the exam instead of waiting to process a whole series of
films. The images are recorded onto a CD for easy storage and
are available for transmission to other veterinarians for a second
opinion or to a farrier to help perform therapeutic shoeing.
This service is available as an in-clinic service - call our office
for more information or to schedule an appointment.

| Podiatry Services

Our in-house podiatry service is entering its third year and has been
well received by our clients. Therapeutic shoeing such as glue-on shoes,
pour-in pads and customized shoeing processes for lameness and laminitis
issues are available. Working together with our farrier Ray Carter and our
clients Farriers, MEVA uses computer technology such as direct digital
radiography (see Digital Radiography article) and the Metron system (a
computerized hoof conformation evaluator) to create a shoeing program to
help manage foot issues caused by thin walls, certain lameness conditions,
laminitis (founder) and hoof cracks.
Clients are welcome to bring their farriers to our clinic and use the
facility and inventory of shoes we have available. |

Reproduction

"Equine
reproduction varies in sophistication from live cover mating to
breeding with fresh cooled or frozen semen and embryo transfer.
All of these techniques require accurate hormonal synchronization and
manipulation combined with rectal palpation and ultrasound.
Successful equine breeding requires a committed
client and experienced veterinary and farm staff."
